Further headwinds for Beyond Meat. The California-based plant-based protein company has announced an impending “material” writedown on some of its long-term assets, according to a filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) The company stated in its statement that, although it cannot yet quantify the extent of the impact, the non-cash write-down concerns assets whose future profitability is no longer considered recoverable according to impairment tests conducted under the accounting principle. The news comes just days after the official third quarter results, expected for November 4, and immediately weighed on the stock market: Beyond Meat shares fell by 23 %, closing a dollars 2,18, after a brief rally linked to the closing of short positions. The value of the stock is still down by approximately 42% since the beginning of the year, after having touched below 1 dollar in October – a threshold which, if maintained, would violate Nasdaq listing rules.

The company expects preliminary revenues of around 70 million dollars, in line with previous estimates but down compared to 81 million of 2024. Gross margins are also expected to decline further, settling between 10 and 11%, compared to 17,7% in the same period last year. Beyond Meat has never recorded a net profit since its IPO in 2019. In the first six months of 2025, losses reached 82,2 million dollars, with volumes declining across all sales channels and particularly in US retail.

The group also completed its exit from the Chinese market, announced further staff cuts and obtained financing from 100 million dollars from Unprocessed Foods (Ahimsa Foundation). To address the crisis, in August he was appointed John Boken of AlixPartners as an external consultant with experience in corporate restructuring. According to John Baumgartner, managing director of Mizuho Securities, “fundamentals will remain under pressure while traditional meat consumption remains strong. Absent a recovery in sales, Beyond Meat will continue to burn cash and lack catalysts for the stock.”
