ALDI Nord is placing Berlin at the heart of its development strategy through 2030. The plan includes new openings, relocations, and a comprehensive expansion and redevelopment program for the existing network, which currently comprises approximately 140 stores.
The goal is to strengthen the brand's role in local shopping, capturing new purchasing habits in densely populated neighborhoods and key urban transportation hubs. To do this, the retailer is working on differentiated real estate solutions, developed in collaboration with investors and project partners.
Between 2021 and 2025, ALDI Nord added nine stores to its Berlin network, relocated one store, and completed 32 expansions or revitalizations. During this phase, various formats emerged, from the "ALDI Checkpoint" on Friedrichstraße to stores in residential complexes and traditional freestanding structures.
Two additional stores, one relocation, and 14 renovations to the existing network are planned for the two-year period 2026-2027. Between 2028 and 2030, the program envisions five new openings, five relocations, and ten expansions or renovations.
A significant part of the strategy involves mixed-use projects, in which the supermarket is integrated with residential units. Over the past ten years, approximately 500 apartments have been built or started above ALDI Nord stores. Projects planned for the coming years could add another 350.
The new development on Weinstraße, in the Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg district, follows this approach and combines a store with residential units. For ALDI Nord, this model allows it to increase its presence in denser neighborhoods while simultaneously generating broader urban development value.
