Aldi is strengthening its presence in the UK with a new opening plan that includes the opening of a new supermarket every week throughout September, for a total of four stores and the creation of up to 120 new jobs. The program kicked off on September 3rd with the opening of the Balsall Common store on Kenilworth Road, near Solihull, and will continue on September 10th in Telford, Shropshire, where the new supermarket will be located on Waterloo Road in the Ketley Point area.
Subsequent openings are scheduled for September 17th in Rayleigh, Essex, within the Weir Retail Park, and on September 24th in Hoxton, East London, on Hackney Road, completing a schedule spanning multiple territories and markets. Each of the four stores will generate up to 30 new job opportunities, bringing the total number of potential positions to 120 and contributing to the economic development of the communities in which the brand has chosen to invest.
The openings are part of Aldi's £370 million program to grow its UK network through 2026, through the construction of new supermarkets and the progressive strengthening of its operational capacity. The discount retailer's long-term goal is to operate 1.500 stores across the UK, expanding its geographical coverage and reaching areas that currently don't have a nearby Aldi store. The strategy therefore aims to consolidate Aldi's position in the UK market, leveraging a competitive pricing policy and a food offering that the group intends to make accessible to an increasingly wider audience of consumers.
"We know there are still many communities across the country that long for access to a Finest Aldi supermarket, and we're working hard to bring our convenience to even more people," said Jonathan Neale, managing director of national real estate at Aldi UK. According to Neale, the opening of a new store every week during September is a concrete demonstration of the chain's rapid expansion and its desire to continue investing in the national market.
"This plan simultaneously creates new jobs and offers quality food at affordable prices to an even larger number of consumers," the manager added, emphasizing the dual commercial and employment impact of the operation. The geographic distribution of the four openings, from the Midlands to Shropshire, through Essex, and finally to the capital, highlights the intention to capture demand both in local communities and in densely populated urban neighborhoods. With this program, Aldi confirms the central role of the United Kingdom in its development projects and continues its journey toward the goal of 1.500 supermarkets, supporting the growth of the network with investments, new hires, and greater proximity to customers.
