Asda has cut hundreds of jobs linked to its complex £800m IT upgrade. More than 200 staff tasked with working on the transformation and separation of the supermarket's IT system from former owner Walmart were laid off this week.
It is understood that more staff will leave in the coming weeks and months as they complete their roles in the transition to Project Future. The retailer spent much of the past year disentangling thousands of programs responsible for checkout, administration and payroll from Walmart.
Asda had hired hundreds of workers to make the switch, which was fraught with setbacks and delays, including a botched update that led to thousands of supermarket workers being paid incorrectly.
