Captain Fresh's international growth strategy has been furthered. The Indian seafood group has reached an agreement to acquire 100% of Frime, a historic Spanish tuna company based in Barcelona. Financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed, and closing remains subject to antitrust approvals in Spain.

Founded in 1937 and now a leading player in the yellowfin tuna segment, Frime imports raw materials from various countries and processes them in its own facilities in Catalonia, specializing in loins and steaks. According to the Spanish business press, the company generates an annual turnover of around €180 million and processes approximately 15.000 tons of tuna annually.

The transaction allows Captain Fresh to directly enter the European processed tuna market, while also strengthening its presence in the Mediterranean. For Frime, joining a global group represents an acceleration in its access to international markets, particularly in the United States, where Captain Fresh has already built a consolidated sales network.

From an industrial standpoint, Frime will maintain significant operational autonomy. Management will remain in place, and the majority shareholder will continue to be involved in the project, with the goal of gradually integrating the activities within the Indian group's global platform. The agreement is based on a shared vision of process innovation and technological investments: in recent years, Frime has significantly upgraded its facilities, developing advanced quality control systems and processes suitable for raw consumption.

The acquisition of Frime is part of a highly active M&A campaign. In 2024, Captain Fresh acquired CenSea, a leading shrimp importer in the United States, and the Polish smoked salmon producer Koral in Europe, marking its entry into the salmon segment. These acquisitions include Senecrus in France, which focuses on cooked shrimp, and, more recently, the acquisition of Ocean Garden through CenSea, which expanded its portfolio of brands and products in the North American market.

Founded in 2020 in Bengaluru as a digital platform for the seafood supply chain, Captain Fresh has gradually evolved its model, combining its technological capabilities with a direct industrial and commercial presence. Today, the group aims to strengthen its presence in existing markets—primarily the United States and Europe—by expanding channels and categories, from foodservice to retail.

With Frime, Captain Fresh adds a historic and highly specialized asset, strengthening its tuna offering and consolidating a strategy that combines global scale, vertical integration, and local production expertise.
