The French Competition Authority has authorized the acquisition of Cora and Match stores by Carrefour, imposing certain conditions to ensure the maintenance of competition in local markets.

The approval of the operation was subject to the sale of 27 stores by Carrefour. The measure was necessary to avoid situations of excessive concentration that could have reduced competition at a local level. Specifically, the stores to be sold include 17 hypermarkets and 10 supermarkets, identified in areas where the merger could have generated an excessive market share for the group.

The intervention of the Competition Authority aims to preserve a competitive balance in the areas affected by the operation. The sale of the stores will guarantee consumers a greater variety of choice and the maintenance of competitive prices, avoiding the risk of market concentration in certain areas.

Despite the obligation to sell, the acquisition of the Cora and Match stores represents a major strategic operation for Carrefour. The operation allows the group to further strengthen its presence in the large-scale retail sector in France, consolidating its position among the main players in the market.

The agreement is part of a broader context of reorganization and rationalization of commercial distribution in France, in which large groups aim to strengthen their positioning through targeted acquisitions and sales network optimization strategies.
