Delhaize Belgium is investing €120 million to strengthen its logistics network and support business growth in Belgium and Luxembourg. The plan includes modernizing existing infrastructure and building a new transportation center and a distribution hub dedicated to fresh produce. The group has confirmed its intention to continue directly managing logistics operations, which it considers strategic for strengthening the brand's competitive position and ensuring efficient service to both customers and affiliated businesses. The investment is based on Delhaize's ongoing growth, accompanied by increased market share, customer base, and volumes handled. According to the company, satisfaction with logistics services has also significantly improved in recent years.

To meet increased demand, Delhaize intends to expand its network capacity and develop an organization capable of supporting the brand's future expansion, which is characterized by a particularly broad assortment of fresh produce and products geared toward balanced nutrition. The current logistics operations at Zellik and Ninove will be maintained, while part of the resources will be allocated to upgrading existing facilities. The most significant project involves the construction of a new transportation hub and a new distribution center for fresh produce in Zellik. The new facilities are scheduled to open in 2029. The project aims to improve flow efficiency, increase merchandise management capacity, and ensure greater continuity in supplies to the sales network. Particular attention will also be paid to employee well-being and operational ergonomics, with the goal of creating a more modern logistics model suited to the operational needs of the coming years.

According to the company's estimates, the investment will also create 130 permanent jobs, strengthening employment within the logistics network managed directly by Delhaize. In the coming months, the group will engage with employee representatives to discuss the project's progress and the organizational implications of expanding operations. "The strong growth Delhaize is experiencing requires a modern, future-proof logistics organization," said Alexandros Boussis, Brand President of Delhaize. "With this investment, we are expanding our logistics capacity, strengthening operations, and creating a solid foundation for long-term, sustainable growth. Together with our employees, we are building the logistics network of the future." The move will thus enable Delhaize to accommodate increased volumes and maintain high levels of service to customers, suppliers, and affiliated businesses, while also consolidating the brand's presence in the Belgian and Luxembourg markets.
