Mega Image and Profi Rom Food, two modern retail brands in Romania belonging to the Ahold Delhaize group, will merge into a single legal entity effective March 31, 2026. This transaction marks a strategic step in the group's positioning in the country and aims to strengthen the organization's efficiency and solidity, while maintaining the two brands' market identities.
The merger will not entail any changes to the formats, brands, or operating methods of Mega Image and Profi, which will continue to operate as separate brands, each with its own local presence. The goal is to create a more integrated legal and organizational structure, capable of optimizing resource allocation and improving coordination of activities.
According to the group, the integration is designed to generate benefits along the entire supply chain, from customers to employees and local communities. Greater operational efficiency and reduced supply chain costs should translate into improved offerings, with broader product ranges, higher quality, and more competitive prices for Romanian consumers.
A key element of the strategy remains strengthening partnerships with local producers, in line with Ahold Delhaize's values and mission. The new structure will allow for more structured support for national supply chains and the enhancement of local product ranges, particularly in the fresh produce sector.
Mircea Moga, CEO of Mega Image Romania, emphasized that the merger represents an opportunity to combine expertise and teams, while maintaining strong ties to the regions served. Mihai Spulber, CEO of Profi Rom Food, emphasized that entering a unified structure will allow them to pool their experiences and capabilities, without distorting the identity and distinctive values of the two brands.
Together, Mega Image and Profi operate a network of approximately 2.700 stores, with over 40.000 employees, in over 800 cities and towns across Romania. The new entity will also be able to leverage the international experience and expertise of the Ahold Delhaize Group more effectively, strengthening its investment capacity and competitive positioning in the Romanian retail market.
