Aldi is aggressively pursuing its expansion plan in Spain and has announced the opening of 40 new supermarkets by 2026, further strengthening its presence in the domestic market. The chain's goal is to bring its shopping offering, based on a balance of quality and affordable prices, to an ever-increasing number of Spanish families.
The growth plan will focus primarily on Catalonia, Andalusia, the Community of Madrid, and the Community of Valencia, which alone will accommodate more than half of the planned new openings. At the same time, Aldi intends to consolidate its network in other strategic areas of the country, with new stores in the Canary Islands, the Balearic Islands, Aragon, and the Region of Murcia. The development path will also extend to northern Spain, with new openings planned in the Basque Country and Cantabria.
The first openings of the year are scheduled for January 28th, with the inauguration of two new supermarkets: one in Barcelona's Mercat de Montserrat neighborhood, and one in S'Arenal, Mallorca. This launch symbolically marks the start of a key year for the German brand in the Spanish market.
At the end of 2025, Aldi operated 496 supermarkets in Spain, with a total retail space exceeding 549.000 square meters, and a workforce of over 8.000 employees. These numbers demonstrate consistent and structured growth over time. The growth of its customer base also confirms this positive trend: the company claims to have reached approximately 8 million households and maintains that 4 out of 10 consumers choose Aldi for their regular shopping. In 2025 alone, the chain is expected to have acquired over 400.000 new customers, consolidating its position as one of the fastest-growing chains in Spain in recent years.
