The Extraordinary Commissioner for African Swine Fever, Giovanni Filippini, issued Ordinance no. 3/2024, in force until September 30, which tightens the bans on the movement of animals and access to farms located in restriction zones I, II, and III of Piedmont, Lombardy, and Emilia-Romagna. If a structural or management deficiency in biosecurity requirements is found that cannot be remedied within 15 days, the establishments will be emptied.
Coldiretti has called for immediate action to limit the spread of African swine fever and to compensate damaged companies, stressing that the situation puts 30 billion in revenue at risk due to lost exports.
Eight new cases of African swine fever were recorded between Liguria and Piedmont, bringing the total to 920 confirmed positive cases. Support under the “de minimis” regime has been approved for breeders who make their animals available as “sentinels” for Blue Tongue.
Meanwhile, the European Commission has officially declared the swine fever outbreak extinguished in the surveillance area established within a radius of 15 kilometers from the Dorgali farm, where the presence of genotype 2023 had been found in three animals in September 2.
