Asda has announced the introduction of Electronic Shelf Labels (ESL) VusionGroup Furthermore 250 Express stores, with the aim of improving product availability on the shelf and simplifying operations for staff. The technology will also be installed in 20 new stores which will open by the end of the year, starting with the one in Castleford.

The project follows a three month trial successfully conducted at the Oxford Road store in Manchester, which has allowed colleagues to dedicate more time to customer service and restocking. Each store will be equipped with approximately 2.800 electronic labels, for a total of over 700.000 devices.

Thanks to the system, prices can be updated in real time without manual intervention, while customers will have access to additional information via QR code, including details on allergens, weight and unit price.

The operation is carried out in collaboration with Renovotec e HL Display, technology partners of VusionGroup. "We are continuing to invest in improving our stores," said Joseph Sutton, Vice President of Asda Express –. Adopting cutting-edge technologies allows us to free up time for colleagues and improve the customer experience.”

Satisfaction also from Roy HorganVusionGroup CEO UK & Ireland: “This phase represents a decisive step in Asda’s digital transformation, combining electronic shelf labels, IoT and data analytics to revolutionise the in-store experience.”
