Asda is doubling its electric delivery fleet, confirming its commitment to reducing greenhouse gas emissions. The British giant will invest £1,3 million to introduce 112 new electric delivery vans and install charging points in its stores across the UK.
From this month, 21 Asda stores will have an all-electric delivery fleet by September. The new vehicles, with a range of up to 130 miles, will make over a million deliveries in a year, helping to reduce up to 1.700kg of CO₂ per vehicle per year.
“We are constantly looking for new ways to better serve customers and reduce our emissions – we are excited to more than double our electric fleet,” said Emma Newton, Senior Director – Last Mile Ecommerce at Asda.
Electric vehicle trials began in 2023 at Gillingham Pier, Old Kent Road and Sheffield Chaucer. In parallel, Asda opened two Bio-LNG refueling stations in 2024, reinforcing its leadership in sustainable logistics. With over 780 vehicles powered by liquefied natural gas, Asda now operates the largest fleet in the UK using low-carbon fuel.
