CHEP, a global leader in pallet pooling, has signed a strategic agreement with Barilla, the world's leading pasta manufacturer, to convert most of its freight pallets in Italy into reusable pallets.

According to Roberto Magnani, Vice President of Logistics at Barilla, the decision to adopt CHEP reusable pallets represents a fundamental step towards reducing waste, optimizing logistics processes, and ensuring product safety. The agreement, effective from February 2025, will enable significant results in terms of environmental sustainability, including waste reduction, lower CO2 emissions, and the conservation of natural resources such as wood. At the same time, Barilla will benefit from increased pallet availability, improved service levels, and optimized supply chain management.

The agreement marks an evolution in the collaboration between the two companies, which began in Italy in 2009 and expanded across Europe in 2018. The pallet conversion will be completed in eight months and will allow Barilla to focus on its core business, leveraging CHEP's expertise in pallet management. Luca Rossi, Vice President of European Key Accounts at CHEP, emphasized how this agreement confirms the validity of the pallet pooling model, capable of ensuring sustainability, efficiency, and cost savings even in complex supply chains.
