Organic Made in Italy products are expanding: exports have increased 174% in ten years, with fruit, vegetables, and wine booming.

During the meeting promoted by Cooperabio, the Chief Operating Officer of Nomisma, Silvia Zucconi, illustrated an updated picture of the organic sector at the national and international level. The global organic market is now worth 136 billion euros, with the North America which concentrates almost half of consumption (47%), followed by Europe (40%) e Asia (11%).

Italy, although representing the 3% of global value, shows one of the most solid growth dynamics: from 2014 to 2024 the turnover increased by + 194 %Organic now covers the 4% of family food expenditure, about a quarter 66 euros per capita, with a basket dominated by fruits and veg, meat and eggs, dairy product, extra virgin olive oil, pasta, rice e bakery products.

The production system counts 97.160 operators active (+2,9% in 2024) and 2,5 million hectares of organic farming, Equal to 20,2% of the agricultural area. “The Italian consumer associates organic with the values ​​of sustainability and quality – Zucconi underlined – but also asks transparency on the origin, minimally processed ingredients e eco-friendly packaging.
