Caprabo closed 2025 with growth in sales of local products, confirming the strategic importance of local supply chains within Catalan large-scale retail trade. The supermarket chain recorded over €41,7 million in sales generated by products sourced from small producers and local agricultural cooperatives, an 8% increase over the previous year.
The result reinforces the path of the "Programme de Proximity per Comarcas," an initiative launched over ten years ago with the aim of promoting local producers, supporting the agri-food sector, and bringing seasonal products tied to the Catalan territory to the shelves.
Growth has been driven by both increased consumer demand and an expanded product range. Over the past year, Caprabo has added a dozen new suppliers and introduced 174 new convenience items to its supermarkets.
According to General Manager Edorta Juaristi, the data confirms "the strength of Caprabo's local model and the growing consumer interest in products with provenance, quality, and a connection to the local area." She also emphasized how the network built over the years with producers and cooperatives now allows the chain to offer one of the widest local assortments in the Catalan retail sector.
The company currently collaborates with over 360 small producers and agricultural cooperatives and markets more than 3.700 local products from the four provinces of Catalonia. Its sales network includes approximately 300 supermarkets throughout Catalonia.
The new additions concern various territorial areas of Catalonia and include categories such as dried fruit, spices, biscuits, honey, olives, preserves, chocolate and seasonal products, including specialties dedicated to the holidays such as Christmas nougat and Easter sweets.
The program is being developed in collaboration with the Federation of Agricultural Cooperatives of Catalonia, the Catalan Federation of PDO-PGI, and the Department of Agriculture of the Catalan Government. This model aims to promote the marketing of local products, increase their presence in modern retail outlets, and give greater visibility to the work of agricultural cooperatives.
Alongside its commercial activities, Caprabo continues to invest in the cultural and gastronomic promotion of local products through fairs and events. Over the past ten years, the company has organized more than fifty fairs dedicated to local products and over thirty food days in collaboration with chefs, producers, and local organizations.
In 2025, the initiatives involved areas such as Altafulla, Barcelona, and Caldes de Montbui, with the participation of approximately fifty local producers. Among the events organized were those dedicated to Calçot de Valls, products from Catalan agricultural cooperatives, and rice from the Ebro Delta.
Caprabo also joined the launch of the "Implicat" brand, a new initiative in the Catalan agri-food sector promoted by the Generalitat with the aim of strengthening the economic and identity value of local products.
Founded in Barcelona in 1959, Caprabo is one of the historic brands in Catalan retail. The company serves over one hundred thousand customers daily and, in its new strategic plan to 2030, focuses on healthy eating, environmental sustainability, and the promotion of local economies.
