Carrefour Belgium has opened its third autonomous BuyBye micro-store at the NATO SHAPE headquarters in Casteau, Belgium, in partnership with Portuguese tech company Reckon.ai. This innovative 24-hour store allows customers to purchase products without going through the checkout: machine vision and weight sensor technology automatically registers purchases.
The store offers more than 250 essential items, including fresh fruit for breakfast, ready meals and personal care products, supplied by Carrefour Market in Casteau. With 12 smart entrances, it is the most advanced configuration to date.
Ana Pinto, CEO of Reckon.ai, expressed pride in the success of the collaboration, highlighting the growing confidence of large companies in autonomous technology. CTO Paulo Ribeiro called the project “a new chapter in autonomous retail, suitable for even the most demanding environments.”
The opening comes shortly after Reckon.ai was awarded a European patent for its AI-powered smart locker technology, reinforcing the company’s pioneering role in unattended retail. The first BuyBye store opened in December 2023 near Carrefour Belgium’s headquarters.
