Since its inception, Grissin Bon has been a point of reference in the market of rusks and breadsticks. The Bernardelli family, which has led the company for three generations, works to bring innovation to the sector, which is not limited and linked only to the product, but involves multiple fronts. Among these we include the adoption of production processes with a high level of automation and integration, implemented by the MES (Manufacturing Execution System) system which, to date, allows for the best management of monitoring and reporting of production lines. Innovation in Grissin Bon is also expressed in terms of format; it is no coincidence, in fact, that the company was among the first to bring single-portion products to the shelves, meeting the needs of a consumer who today seeks speed and convenience.

And there is also news on the breadstick front, as anticipated by Enrico Andrea Cecchi, marketing and sales director of Grissin Bon.

“In the world of breadsticks, the company has focused on improving a product that is one of our best sellers in the portfolio, the Minifagoloso: thanks to a new recipe, a new shape and new packaging, in a few months it will be presented in a more modern and delicious version. Our goal is to free it from the world of breadsticks (intended purely as a substitute for bread) to propose it as a snack suitable for any time of the day.”

Grissin Bon also has new products in store for the world of rusks, which will be presented to customers and partners at Cibus 2024.

The new entries will be:

  • Salty Slices: exclusive savory biscuit, made with 100% whole wheat flour, suitable for any time of the day. Ideal for tasty bruschetta, spreadable cheeses, vegetarian recipes and with an excellent slice of salmon. Grissin Bon reinvents the use of the biscuit so that it can be not only the ideal companion for sweet or savory breakfasts, but also a crunchy solution for lunch and dinner.
  • Protein Slices: high protein rusks: a valuable ally in a balanced and varied diet for the growth and maintenance of muscle mass. Grissin Bon protein rusks, produced with plant-based proteins, are a source of fiber, are characterized by a low saturated fat content and have a reduced sugar content: -35% compared to the average of rusks on the market (Source: Unione Italiana Food).
  • Barley Malt Slices: a biscuit characterized by a sweet and decisive taste that helps make the start of the day more delicious. Enjoy with a thin layer of jam to accentuate the sweetness or pair with a spreadable cheese to obtain a pleasant contrast and an explosion of flavors.

These innovations are a strong signal from Grissin Bon that aims for constant growth, despite the difficulties arising from the difficult situation that wheat has been experiencing in recent years.

“Wanting to compare, through MATIF (Paris futures market), the pre-2020 prices with the current ones, the difficult situation that our sector has had to face in recent years is immediately evident. To date, prices are still high although there has been a decrease for basic grains, while on the strength grains the quotations continue to be sustained” confirms Cecchi.

In addition to the national market, where Grissin Bon is one of the main players in its sector, the Reggio Emilia company aims to reach and consolidate itself abroad as well.

"Grissin Bon's turnover is divided into: 80% Italy and 20% abroad. Of this 20%, the largest share is represented by products that we develop for third parties; in fact, we are partners of some of the most important players in European distribution. In particular - continues Cecchi - to date we have concentrated on continental Europe and, more specifically, on all those countries where there is a gastronomic culture that includes the consumption of breadsticks and rusks. Spain, Portugal, France and Germany are the countries to which we are dedicating most attention, even if we are also having positive feedback from Northern European countries. We are also seeing great interest in products destined for the world Ho.re.ca.: the allure of Mediterranean gastronomy abroad means that many Italian restaurateurs choose our breadsticks for their customers. Speaking of abroad, we cannot fail to mention our Canadian subsidiary, Grissin Bon Ltd, thanks to which we are pursuing a dual objective: to make our brand known to the North American market and to propose ourselves as a partner for the development of branded products overseas as well”.
