Co-op, the UK's leading convenience retail and quick commerce provider, has announced the launch of Peckish, a new fast delivery platform dedicated to independent retailers. With an initial investment of £1 million, the new app allows small, often family-run, grocers to offer an e-commerce and delivery service to local customers, overcoming traditional barriers of cost, scale and resources.

“The quick commerce market is growing rapidly and demand for delivery services in less than 30 minutes is constantly increasing. With Peckish, we are putting our expertise to work for independent stores, helping them to expand their reach and digitise their service,” said Matt Hood, Managing Director of Co-op Food.

After a trial in 30 stores, Co-op aims to involve over 1.000 retailers in the first year, with the possibility of tripling that number by the third year. The platform integrates with the stores’ EPOS system, making it easier to manage pricing and stock. Merchants will be able to manage deliveries themselves or rely on Co-op’s logistics partners, including Just Eat and Uber Direct, guaranteeing delivery times of less than 30 minutes.

Peckish is not only an opportunity for digital growth, but also a contribution to the economic vitality of local communities. “Neighborhood stores are more than just a point of sale; they are community hubs. The app will allow retailers to quickly connect with customers, strengthening the local economy and the concept of ‘shop local,’” Hood added.
