Aldi is set to close out 2025 with a further acceleration in new store openings in the United States, confirming its particularly intense expansion strategy. The discount retailer opened 18 new stores on December 11 and will close out the year with four more openings, representing the final round of new stores planned for 2025. The 22 supermarkets are spread across ten states—Alabama, Florida, Arkansas, Louisiana, Maryland, Mississippi, Missouri, New Jersey, New York, and Ohio—with a strong concentration in Florida, which remains one of the group's key growth markets. This latest round of openings follows a similar opening just a few weeks after a similar move at the end of November, when Aldi opened 16 stores in a single day, primarily along the East Coast and once again with Florida taking center stage. At that time, five of the new Florida locations were former Winn-Dixie supermarkets, while one was a Winn-Dixie Liquor format. With the final four openings scheduled by the end of December, Aldi will have surpassed 175 new stores in total during 2025, confirming the rapid pace of its development plan. This growth is primarily driven by the acquisition and conversion of over 220 Winn-Dixie and Harveys Supermarket stores, allowing the group to expand rapidly while reducing the time and investment required to build new stores. In the latest round of 22 openings, all 12 stores opened in Florida are former Winn-Dixie locations, as are one store in Alabama and one in Louisiana. The conversion strategy thus confirms itself as a cornerstone of Aldi's expansion in the US market, allowing the brand to strengthen its presence in densely populated areas and capture increasingly cost-conscious demand. With the closing of 2025, Aldi is thus consolidating a year of strong growth and laying the foundation for further expansion in 2026.
