Lidl is accelerating its development plan in Spain with the opening of twelve new stores in February, supported by a total investment of €87 million and the creation of 266 stable, high-quality jobs. The new openings will cover seven autonomous communities, with the Community of Madrid (four openings) and the Valencian Community (three) leading the way in terms of new store openings, followed by Andalusia, Extremadura, the Region of Murcia, Galicia, and the Canary Islands. This expansion strengthens the network's reach and consolidates the retailer's presence throughout the country.
Overall, the new openings will add approximately 16.000 square meters of sales space, contributing to a network that now exceeds 700 stores in Spain. The operation is fully consistent with the group's long-term, sustained growth strategy, focused on greater consumer proximity. In its 2025 fiscal year (March 1, 2025 – February 28, 2026), Lidl plans to open approximately 50 stores across the country: around 40 new locations, with the remainder dedicated to renovations and expansions of the existing network, with the aim of improving the shopping experience and operational efficiency.
The openings in Narón, Galicia, and Granadilla de Abona, in the Canary Islands, are particularly symbolic. They will allow the chain to reach 40 stores in both autonomous communities, strengthening markets considered strategic for future development. The new stores will adopt the standard Lidl format, with a selection focused on fresh produce, private label products, regional products, and themed promotional initiatives, within modern, accessible spaces designed with energy efficiency in mind.
Sustainability remains a cornerstone of the expansion plan: many of the new openings include electric vehicle charging stations and solutions designed to reduce environmental impact. Alongside its commercial growth, Lidl continues to invest in logistics, with the recent launch of hubs in Constantí (Tarragona) and Martorell (Barcelona), the latter being the group's largest logistics investment in Spain. With over 19.700 employees, 14 logistics hubs, and annual purchases from domestic suppliers exceeding €7,9 billion, Lidl confirms its leading role in the industrial, employment, and competitive development of modern Spanish retail.
