Dia consolidated its growth in the Spanish food distribution market and strengthened its presence in the convenience segment, closing the first quarter of 2026 with a 5,2% market share, up 20 basis points compared to the same period the previous year. In March, according to NielsenIQ data, market share reached 5,3%, confirming the group as the fourth-largest national operator in Spain.
The company recorded growth nearly double that of the overall market during the quarter, supported by the expansion of its sales network, the strengthening of its offering, and the central role of fresh products in its consumer offering.
Between January and March, Dia opened 22 new supermarkets in Spain, more than offsetting the closure of seven stores. This move is part of the 2025-2029 strategic plan "Creciendo cada día," which calls for 300 net openings by 2029, including 100 in 2026.
At the end of March, the group's Spanish network comprised a total of 2.373 supermarkets nationwide. The stated goal is to further consolidate the proximity model, focusing on fast, accessible shopping experiences that are close to consumers, both through physical stores and online.
According to NielsenIQ, the positive trend confirms the good performance already begun in 2025 and strengthens Dia's positioning in Spanish food retail, in a context characterized by strong competition between brands and growing customer attention to convenience and quality.
One of the factors that supported this growth was the strengthening of the product range, based on a balance between industrial brands and private labels. The company also continues to invest in the fresh produce sector and the local supply chain: 96% of its purchases are made from over 1.100 Spanish suppliers.
E-commerce also continues to be a strategic lever for the group. Dia's online service now reaches 84% of the Spanish population, including over four million consumers living in low-density areas, where organized distribution faces greater logistical challenges.
The growth in market share and the expansion of the sales network therefore confirm the company's desire to strengthen its role in local distribution, a segment that continues to show positive dynamics in the Spanish large-scale retail market.
