The agro-ecological transition as a choice that improves resilience and environmental sustainability for the well-being of current and future generations is the main theme of the Festa del Bio and Anteprima Terra Madre.
The sixth edition of the Organic Festival, the main itinerant event of Italian organic products, will be held from 11am to MAXXI in Rome, together with “Preview Mother Earth”, the three-day event of Slow Food Italy dedicated to food, climate and future beauty as a shared perspective for the protection of the Planet, which includes conferences, workshops and the opportunity to meet the Slow Food and organic producers of the area.
Organized by FederBio together with Slow Food Italia, with the participation of Legambiente, Lipu, WWF Italia, ISDE Medici per l'Ambiente, AssoBio, Crédit Agricole Italia, Vallefiorita and NaturaSì, the Festa del BIO aims to transfer the values and culture of true organic, involving citizens in the benefits, for the health of people and the environment, that derive from a healthy and correct food consumption based on organic foods. It is an initiative supported by “Being Organic in EU”, the project promoted by FederBio in collaboration with Naturland which aims to promote European organic products.
“This year our Festa del BIO joins forces, in the Rome stage, with Anteprima Terra Madre, consolidating the synergy with Slow Food Italia and amplifying the common commitment to raising awareness towards agroecological practices that respect the environment and promote conscious eating – explains Maria Grazia Mammuccini, President of FederBio – The Organic Festival aims to consolidate the relationship between farmers and citizens and to make people reflect on the importance of organic-based food models in the process of adopting increasingly sustainable lifestyles.
The area dedicated to producers with the 'Lazio Earth and Organic Markets' jointly organized by Slow Food Italy, the Lazio Region, Arsial and FederBio, is the concrete representation that agroecology and food sovereignty are two sides of the same coin strictly consistent with organic and biodynamic. These models of production and consumption aim to create food systems linked to the territory and local communities, putting the rights of people and the environment at the forefront, thus implementing democratic systems and public participation for the definition of food policies".
Climate crisis, food and organic farming. Why the Green Deal can save farmers and how organic has gone from being a niche market to one of the tools at the heart of European green policies. On Saturday 25 May, at 11 am, they will talk about it at the inaugural press conference of the Festa del BIO and Anteprima Terra Madre, Maria Grazia Mammuccini, President FederBio, Barbara Nappini, President of Slow Food Italy, Sarah Segantin, Writer, reporter and Ambassador for the European Climate Pact, together with Silvia Sinibaldi, Deputy Director of Caritas Italiana, Gianmaria Sannino, ENEA Climatologist, Fabio Brescacin, President of NaturaSì and Nicoletta Maffini, President of AssoBio.
The Festa del BIO will continue with the contest “BUONO! È BIO”, the competition that sees the young chefs of the Giuseppe Di Vittorio hotel institute compete live, with original and imaginative combinations, to compete for the coveted Ladle BIO. The contest aims to educate the new generations on the importance of sustainable food choices based on organic products that respect the earth and ecosystems.
The talk will follow: “Territories love Bio – on tour”. There are more and more municipal administrations that have chosen to adopt green practices, that limit or eliminate the use of pesticides in agricultural fields and green areas and that choose organic food for public canteens.
They will share these virtuous choices: Maria Grazia Mammuccini, President FederBio, Giancarlo Righini, Councillor for Budget, Economic Planning, Agriculture and Food Sovereignty and Sabrina Alfonsi, Councilor for Agriculture, Environment and Waste Cycle of Rome Capital. Nutrition plays a fundamental role in the health and well-being of people and environmental ecosystems. At 16.45:XNUMX pm, the talk “More healthful, more organic” will explore the benefits that come from a healthy and sustainable diet. Laura DiRenzo, Director of the School of Specialization in Food Science at Tor Vergata University, Sabrina Giannini, Rai journalist, author and host of “Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner”, Stefania Ruggeri, First Researcher CREA-Food and Nutrition and Andrea DeVecchi, Medical surgeon specialized in Food Science.
To conclude the first day of the Organic Festival, the taste and colours of environmentally friendly cuisine with the Chef Luisanna Messeri, the pop TV chef, and the toast to a more organic and sustainable future.
“The choices of food we bring to the table have environmental, economic and social implications – continues the President of FederBio – Climate change, increasingly frequent and intense, is a clear signal that the Planet is suffering greatly. We need to define a paradigm shift as soon as possible that pushes towards a more conscious and sustainable way of producing and consuming food, with less waste, based on seasonality, proximity and the right price for farmers and consumers.
However, everyone's commitment is needed, because it is precisely through the adoption of sustainable eating habits that a positive impact on climate change, on the health of people and natural ecosystems can be determined, also for future generations. The Festa del BIO and Anteprima Terra Madre continues on Sunday 26 May with entertainment and fun in the name of good organic food. At 10.45 the stories of biodiversity return with the experiences of farmers who, with their sustainable agricultural practices, face environmental, climate and food challenges on a daily basis. The dialogue will be coordinated by Fabio Actor, Scientific Director of the Botanical Garden of Rome, one of the largest in Italy, with over 3000 plant species.
At 11.50 during the talk “Europe, organic and biodiversity. Good practices and opportunities that the EU has made possible”, the initiative GoodFoodGoodFarming, as part of the #VoteFutureEU Campaign, will share with Federica Luoni, head of Agriculture of Lipu and the moderation of Francesca Giare, CREA researcher, some of the main environmental projects at the heart of the EU green policies. A few days before the renewal of the European Parliament, the dialogue aims to stimulate even more incisive green action in the next legislature.
During the two days from 10 to 18 there will be games, workshops for the little ones at the BabyBioPark, tastings of organic menus in the Bio-Kitchen and many organic products at the Lazio Earth Markets village with over 60 producers from the Earth Markets, Slow Food Presidia and organic companies from Lazio.
