“Italians, pizza, pasta and mandolin”This is how we have been portrayed for decades, if not centuries, because Italy and pasta have always been two inseparable axioms.

Yet according to a study just conducted by Piepoli Institute for Cibus Lab, the thought laboratory of the famous Italian international food fair, which will be presented during the trade fair, the May 9th at 9:30 am at the Innovation Arena in Pavilion 7, Italians consume less and less of it.

According to the study, the 79% of Italians consume durum wheat semolina pasta, but if this average is dissected and analysed in depth it presents some curiosities: more men than women consume it (81% versus 76%), especially young people and people up to 54 years of age, after which the percentage drops drastically (73%).

In north less pasta is consumed, even in in the north-east the percentage does not go beyond 69% against 78% in the center and 86% in the south.

The study will explain what the percentage of Italians who have decided to consume less pasta in the last year (well into double digits) e the reasons for which they decided this.

Finally, the representative sample of Italians was asked if they find substantial differences between supermarket brands and well-known industry brands, of the preference among the supermarket brands or discount brands and finally, what is the most frequently purchased industrial brand? This is different from the last question, which is to say, what are the first three brands of semolina pasta that come to mind for Italians?

The responses from a representative sample of Italians are surprising, and will provide an opportunity to seriously explore the underlying scenarios behind this picture of the research institute and the possible solutions.

Il Cibus Lab will be presented by Letizia Berciotti of GDONews, media partner of Cibus, together with the magazine's director Andrea Meneghini. They will be present Mark Furs, manager of Nielsen IQ which will outline the situation regarding sales in large-scale distribution, Charles Aquilano Sales Director of De Cecco, Attilio Pallante To the Antonio Pallante Pasta Factory, Giandomenico Marcone manager of Granoro Pasta Factory, Eastern January Senior buyer Retail Pro Pam and confirmation is awaited from a fifth participant that the organization has not revealed.
