Grupo Consorcio is strengthening its presence in the Italian premium canned fish market, focusing on product innovation and high-value segments. Two years after opening its direct sales subsidiary in Milan in January 2024, the company is consolidating its position with growing results and a strategy increasingly focused on direct local presence. In 2025, the group recorded positive performance in the premium tuna segment, with a 7,8% increase in volume and 7,0% in value. Growth was driven in particular by the glass jar format, which recorded a 12,2% increase in volume, confirming consumer interest in solutions perceived as higher-quality and more sustainable. Growth was even more pronounced in the Cantabrian anchovy segment, the company's flagship product, which closed the year with a 24,1% increase in volume and a 27,6% increase in value, well above the market average. A result that reflects the valorization of the supply chain and the artisanal production process, based on the manual labor of the sobadoras.
Overall, these performances have allowed Grupo Consorcio to gain 1,2 percentage points of market share, strengthening its position in the premium segment. This positioning is now reflected in a targeted development plan for 2026, with the introduction of new products and formats designed to capture emerging consumer trends. "Directly managing the business in Italy has proven to be a winning choice," emphasizes Dario De Stefano, General Sales Manager Italy, "and in the coming months, we will work to optimize the mix between shelf and promotional activities, expanding our offering to include more flexible formats and strategic segments."
The launch plan for spring 2026 is structured around three main areas. The first concerns the organic segment, with the expansion of the tuna in organic extra virgin olive oil range through new canned formats and the introduction of double-packs, as well as the expansion of the Cantabrian anchovy offering in organic jars. The second area is the fresh food section, where a line of ready-to-eat products based on Cantabrian anchovies, with a shelf life of six months, is debuting. The range includes the XL Anchovy Gold Series and flavored variants, such as smoked or with garlic and parsley, designed for ready-to-eat deli products.
Finally, for individual consumption, the company is introducing a 40-gram lithographed can of Cantabrian anchovies, designed to meet the growing demand for single-serving solutions and gourmet snacks. To support its business development, Grupo Consorcio maintains a strong commitment to sustainability. Over 99% of its anchovies are MSC certified, while approximately 95% of its tuna meets MSC or APR standards. The company, certified B Corp since 2019 and reconfirmed in 2024, also guarantees complete traceability of its supply chain through its proprietary "Journey to Origin" platform.
