Heineken is accelerating its growth in Latin America with a major move. The Dutch group has signed an agreement with the Florida Ice and Farm Company (FIFCO), a historic Costa Rican company, to significantly expand its presence in Central America.
The transaction is valued at $3,2 billion, equivalent to approximately €2,7 billion. With this acquisition, Heineken consolidates its position in an area considered strategic for the growth potential of beer and beverage consumption. Fifco is a major player in the Costa Rican and Central American markets, active not only in beer but also in water, soft drinks, and non-alcoholic beverages. The company, founded in 1908, has built a strong distribution network in the region over the years, becoming a leader in various segments.
For Heineken, the transaction represents a further step in its geographic diversification strategy, following investments in Latin America and Asia. The Dutch multinational aims to strengthen its brand portfolio and leverage manufacturing and logistics synergies with Fifco's facilities. "This agreement allows us to decisively enter a dynamic and growing market, while leveraging Fifco's experience and reach," group sources stated. The transaction is expected to close by the end of the year, subject to regulatory approvals.
