Increase in B Corp certifications in the Italian wine sector

In 2024, the European Union exported alcoholic beverages for a total value of €29,8 billion, marking a 10,9% increase compared to 2019. Fresh grape wine, including fortified wine, was the main protagonist, representing more than half of exports (56,2%, equal to €16,8 billion). Spirits and liqueurs (€8,9 billion) and beer (€3,4 billion) follow, while cider, mead and vermouth cover smaller shares.

Among the main exporters, France stands out, with 12,1 billion euros, equal to 41% of the EU total, thanks above all to wine (66,7%) and spirits (31,8%). Italy confirms its second place, with 6 billion euros (20% of the total), driven by wine which covers over 80% of Italian exports. Spain and the Netherlands stand at 8% each, with Spain strong in wine and the Netherlands in beer.

The United States remains the main market for European exports, with purchases of 8,9 billion euros, followed by the United Kingdom (4,9 billion), China and Canada (1,6 billion each) and Switzerland (1,4 billion). Spirits and liqueurs prevail towards China, while Canada and Switzerland prefer European wine.
