Lactalis inaugurated yesterday a new logistics hub in Melzo, in the province of Milan, dedicated to the distribution of Galbani cured meats. This investment, which exceeds 7 million euros and was made over the course of two years, is in addition to the approximately 3 million invested annually in the last four years in the adjacent plant.
The facility will become the reference logistics hub for cured meats, managing the annual distribution of 22.000 tons of products, of which approximately 20.500 tons destined for the Italian market and 1.500 tons for export, and will create 16 new jobs that will be added to the 240 employees of the complex. One of the main strengths of the new base lies in the integration between IT, logistics and production functions, which allows for the efficiency and optimization of operational flows.
A QR code-based traceability system has also been introduced, which allows the monitoring of packaged cured meats in real time throughout the supply chain, from production to the final consumer. Thanks to the intelligent wiring of the structure, Lactalis Italia will be able to guarantee instant traceability, offering greater transparency and security for its customers.
With an operational capacity of managing approximately 380 incoming pallets and up to 8.000 outgoing packages every day, distributed across approximately 12 trucks, the Melzo warehouse allows for widespread and efficient distribution that will allow for more than 350 daily deliveries.
“With an investment of over 7 million euros in the new logistics base in Melzo, in addition to the other 3 million per year for the production plant, Lactalis reaffirms its focus on cured meats, which from today will have their own dedicated distribution hub,” said Paolo Guzzardi, General Manager of Galbani Salumi. “This new infrastructure therefore represents an important step in consolidating our strength on the Italian market.”
