Marks & Spencer has announced the opening of a new 36.000 sq ft distribution centre in Avonmouth, Bristol, scheduled for 2026. The project is part of the company’s ‘Reshape for Growth’ strategy, which aims to modernise the company’s logistics network and increase capacity to support future growth.
The new hub will serve stores in the Midlands, South West England and South Wales, ensuring more efficient and timely distribution of food products. “Modernising the supply chain is key to growing the food business and becoming a brand on our customers’ shopping lists,” said Alex Freudmann, managing director of M&S Food.
The facility will also be the most sustainable food hub in the entire M&S network in the UK, equipped with solar panels, electric vehicle charging stations and provision for zero-emission vehicles. Special attention will also be paid to staff wellbeing, with modern and equipped workspaces.
The site is strategically located between Bristol and Portbury city centres and adds to the company’s recent investments in the region, including the Foodhall expansion at Cribbs Causeway and new openings planned at Cabot Circus and Bath city centre.
In parallel, M&S continues to improve its logistics network with the integration of partner Gist, the adoption of new forecasting systems and more efficient ordering and operational programs. In the Clothing & Home sector, investments are also made in automation and long-term partnerships to improve efficiency and reduce costs.
