Mars has signed its first European renewable energy acceleration contract with GoldenPeaks Capital, a green project developer active in Europe. The agreement provides for the construction of over 100 new solar plants in Poland, due to enter into operation by 2027.
The new photovoltaic parks will generate 129 megawatts of clean energy, about a quarter 222 gigawatt hours per year, sufficient to feed 100.000 homesThe project, which Mars calls the Central and Eastern Europe's largest multi-buyer renewable energy deal, also involves Cargill, already a partner of GoldenPeaks Capital.
The initiative is part of Mars' global plan to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 50% by 2030 and reach the climate neutrality by 2050In its latest sustainability report, the company recorded a 16,4% decrease in emissions compared to 2015 and a share of renewable energy equal to 58% of the total consumed.
The new programme also strengthens the collaboration already started with Enel in North America, confirming the group's strategy of “making renewable energy the norm wherever Mars operates”.
In parallel, Mars announced a €1 billion investment plan between 2025 and 2026, intended for production and research, with projects in France, Poland and Spain. A concrete sign of the company's commitment to a increasingly sustainable and integrated supply chain globally.
