2025 was not a year of acceleration for mass retail in Mexico, but it was one of confirmación estructural. In a macroeconomic context of controlled deceleration, consumption avoided disruptions and allowed the sector to close its operations with a moderate growth, but clearly expansive, supported in engines that are not routine.

More than a recovery cycle, Mexico will go through a phase of slow, orderly and predictable growth, a condition especially relevant for operators and testers who seek scale and continuity over time.

The Mexican economy continued to grow, albeit at a slower pace than in previous years. Inflation was kept under control search for the target (≈3,8% annual), avoiding a significant erosion of the purchasing power.

The formal workforce and the real salary mass decelerated, however no se contrajeron, allowing private consumption to advance to an estimated level of 3–4% en ventas minoristas. A modest growth, but sufficient to support volume in the mass market.

One of the underlying factors that followed by supporting the demand was there gradual expansion of the urban middle class, especially in large metropolitan areas such as Mexico City, Guadalajara and Monterrey.

Urbanization and demographic concentration favor the structural form modern trade, which has land in front of the traditional trade thanks to the quality, price and convenience. Food, personal care, apparel and electronics continued to be the categories most benefited from this process.

If you have a real accelerator in 2025, that's e-commerce. Online stores will grow in a range of 16-20%, with picos interanuales superiors al 17 % en meses clave.

More relevant is the transformation of the model: Own apps, click & collect and same-day delivery they raised the average ticket and frequency, transferring part of the growth from the physical store to the digital channel sin pérdida de volumen total.

In Mexico, omnichannel has become a competitive opportunity to convert into an operational standard.

Supermarkets, hypermercados and hard discount stores continued to expand red and surface, supported in them more efficient logistics and a own brand every time most accepted as a price and loyalty guarantee.

The formats of hard discount and low price convenience — like 3B, Bara or the “bodega” formats of large cadenas — they showed growth de doble dígito, capturing low rent hogare consumption and low average pressure.

Eventos comerciales como Hot Sale y Good end They will function as catalysts of consumption. In May 2025, for example, the Hot Sale effect stimulated an annual growth in 10 % in organized retail outlets.

The massification of pagos digitales y wallets reinforced this effect, facilitating low ticket purchases and formalizing the steps that had previously been implemented effectively, with direct impact on the wind registers of the modern calendars.

In food & grocery, supermarkets and hypermercados mantuvieron on rol central thanks to extensive surtido, logistical efficiency and competitive price strategies, supporting even volume with a more selective consumer.

In parallel, the growth of foodservice (QSR, casual dining and delivery), driven by faster urbanization and lifestyle, acts as a natural complement to mass market food consumption.

The Lectura Estrategica

2025 has a clear conclusion: Mexico didn't grow quickly, but it grew well. Massive retail will be supported in solid fundamentals - urbanization, middle class, ecommerce and modern trade - which guarantee stability and visibility in the middle of the street.

For operators and testers, the message is unequivocal: Mexico continues to be a demanding, competitive and highly structured market, where growth is not improvised, but where it is necessary with discipline to establish continuity, scale and depth of consumption.
