Spanish frozen bakery group Monbake is strengthening its presence in the professional channel with the acquisition of Triticum, a premium hospitality provider. Financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed, but the deal is part of the group's broader growth and consolidation strategy in the Iberian Peninsula. Founded in Cabrera de Mar, near Barcelona, Triticum specializes in the production and marketing of baked goods for the restaurant and hospitality sectors. The company employs approximately 60 people and operates through a distribution network in Spain and international markets, with a distinctive positioning based on innovation, creativity, and quality.
In 2025, Triticum exceeded €10 million in revenue, confirming a growth trajectory consistent with the growing demand for premium bakery products in the out-of-home channel. This segment is considered strategic by Monbake, especially given changing consumption patterns and the search for high-value solutions by HORECA operators. The operation is based on a shared vision aimed at developing a differentiated, premium bakery product, with a strong focus on product innovation and the ability to anticipate market trends and the needs of professional customers.
According to the group, the acquisition will strengthen its value proposition in the HoReCa channel, thanks to the integration of distinctive product and innovation expertise, as well as a dynamic, growth-oriented team. In this context, the complementarity between the two companies represents a key element of the transaction. Triticum will continue to operate independently, maintaining its organizational structure, current management, and its highly customer-focused business model. At the same time, it will benefit from the industrial scale, financial strength, and operational capabilities of the Monbake group to support a new phase of development.
Founder Xevi Ramón will assume a strategic advisory role within Monbake, collaborating specifically on product development and research and development, while also continuing his commitment to Triticum. This move aims to ensure continuity and leverage the expertise built over time. For Ramón, joining the group provides the support and vision needed to embark on a new phase of growth, maintaining the company's identity and expanding its market impact. This move highlights how the operation is geared not only towards scale, but also towards leveraging the brand's unique strengths.
Monbake, controlled by the private equity fund CVC Capital Partners since 2024, is active in the production and marketing of frozen dough for bread, pastry, and desserts. The group operates brands such as Berlys and Bellsolá and distributes its products in over 30 countries. With over 2.500 employees, 11 production plants, and 28 branches, Monbake relies on a network of more than 100 distributors throughout Spain, making it one of the leading players in the frozen bakery sector in Europe.
The Triticum acquisition therefore represents a further step in the construction of an integrated and complementary industrial platform, with a focus on innovation, professional channel presence, and long-term sustainable growth. From this perspective, the group aims to develop an industrial project capable of combining quality, differentiation, and service, strengthening its position in the premium segment and capturing evolving demand in the foodservice sector.
On the governance front, the group recently began a new management phase with the appointment of Borja Lomba Sorrondegui as CEO, who will take over in 2024 from Aurelio Antuna, who has been at the helm of the company since 2018. In this context, the acquisition appears fully consistent with the group's strategic objectives, aimed at strengthening its leadership in the Iberian market and building an increasingly innovative and competitive offering in the HoReCa channel.
