Perfat Technologies, a Finnish food deep-tech company and member of EIT Food Rising Food Stars, has announced a €2,5 million Series A round. The goal is to scale production, expand the team, and launch innovative lipid solutions to replace saturated and tropical fats without sacrificing taste and texture. The funding round was co-led by Newtree Impact and Beyond Impact, with participation from Nordic Science Investments, University of Helsinki Funds, and Big Idea Ventures, confirming their long-term commitment.
Fats make up 20 to 35% of the daily diet, but saturated fats often exceed WHO recommended limits and are associated with cardiovascular disease. Perfat offers a healthy alternative thanks to a proprietary technology that transforms liquid vegetable oils into solid fats with the same functionality as traditional fats. The company has developed the first fiber-fortified gelled vegetable oil, capable of replacing butter, palm oil, and coconut oil. This solution opens up new possibilities for the food industry. "This funding marks a key milestone in our journey: we want to transform the industry and contribute to consumer health," said Jyrki Lee-Korhonen, CEO of Perfat.
According to Benoît de Bruyn of Newtree Impact, the innovation guarantees "80% less fat, up to 30% fewer calories, and added fiber." Sagar Tandon of Beyond Impact emphasized the platform's ability "to produce tailor-made functional fats that are more sustainable than animal fats."
According to Marion Bazille of Big Idea Ventures, "the technology is already market-ready and requires no further regulatory steps, a crucial advantage for global scalability." With this round, Perfat is positioning itself as a key player in the transition to healthier and more sustainable ingredients, helping to redefine the role of fats in future nutrition.
