Easter 2025 marked by price increases: those who buy traditional sweets such as chocolate eggs and doves will have to face significant price increases. According to a survey by Codacons, the cost of Easter eggs has grown by an average of 29,8% compared to 2024, with peaks above 40% for some premium brands. Even eggs intended for children are recording variable price increases: the classic Kinder Big Surprise 150 grams went from €11,99 to €12,99 (+8,3%), while eggs branded with cartoon and sports club licenses reached increases of up to 33%.

Things are no better for colombe, with prices up 21%. The classic version shows increases between 6% and 9%, while the chocolate-filled ones suffer more marked increases, between 18% and 36%.

The reason for these increases is the surge in raw material costs. The price of cocoa reached $12.000 per ton at the end of 2024, now stabilizing at $8.000, still +175% compared to $2.900 in March 2023. Butter, a key ingredient of doves, also saw a surge of 83% on an annual basis, exceeding $8.300 per ton.

According to Codacons, in addition to the increase in raw materials, energy and production costs are also a factor. Furthermore, producers and large-scale distribution know they can count on the constant demand for these sweets, an essential part of the Italian Easter tradition.
