Tupperware has announced the closure of its factories in Belgium and Portugal, effective January 8, 2025. This decision follows the company's ongoing financial difficulties, including the bankruptcy filing in the United States in early 2024 that we had dedicated an editorial on cibus link.
In Belgium, the closure of the 63-year-old Aalst plant will result in the loss of around 270 jobs. Tupperware’s research division will also cease to exist, leaving 44 more employees home.
In Portugal, the closure of the factory located in Constância will negatively impact approximately 200 workers. This facility relied on its US parent company and had to face the direct consequences of the bankruptcy procedure.
