The fish canning company Gadus Unifrigo, founded in 1878 and now registered in the Register of Italian Historic Companies, is preparing to obtain the Gender Equality CertificationThis move is part of the broader sustainability journey undertaken in recent years. The company has doubled its turnover, reaching 42 million euros, and is now aiming to strengthen internal policies aimed at inclusion, skills development, and employee well-being.
According to the data released, almost the 40% of the staff are women, with a strong youth presence: 45% of female employees are under 35. This percentage is also reflected in key roles, such as the production and quality office. "Every person, with their own uniqueness, is a precious resource," stated the CEO. Andrea Eminente, a member of the sixth generation of the family to lead the company. "The growth of Unifrigo Gadus is thanks to the loyalty of its employees: you can't get anywhere alone." The journey towards certification is not an isolated one. The company had already started in 2023 Project25, a three-year strategy in collaboration with the Parthenope University of Naples, focused on sustainability and innovation. At the same time, the company participates in integration programs that have enabled the integration of refugees from Moldova, Albania, Morocco, and Ukraine, offering language courses and vocational training.
This 2025 also marks the publication of the first Sustainability Report The company's strategy will also include progress on gender equality. This choice, Eminente explains, is driven not only by ethical considerations but also by "numbers that demonstrate how gender is a variable capable of positively impacting process quality and overall performance." With nearly 150 years of experience, Unifrigo Gadus looks to the future by focusing on the centrality of people and recognizing merit as a competitive factor in the canned fish industry.
