Zicaffe, a family-run Sicilian company that roasts and exports coffee blends, has asked the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO) to stop fashion giant Inditex, owner of Zara, from using the name 'Zacaffe' for its new coffee shops, arguing that the name is too similar to its own brand.

As reported in our article On November 26, the flagship brand of the Spanish group opened its first café in Spain, located in the exclusive Salamanca district of Madrid, adjacent to the Zara Man store on Hermosilla Street and with an independent entrance. Zicaffe stated that 'zi' and 'za' are too similar and that there is a risk of confusion, unfair advantage and damage to the distinctiveness of its brand.

Inditex did not immediately respond to a request for comment, nor did Vito Zichitella, the grandson of Zicaffe’s founder and one of the company’s owners.
