New logistics hubs and anti-waste formats: the dual growth trajectory of Transgourmet Ibérica and Sqrups

Transgourmet Ibérica and Sqrups announce two growth strategies that reflect the new direction of Spanish food retail and distribution: consolidation on the one hand, and sustainable, waste-reducing expansion on the other.

For Transgourmet Ibérica, a subsidiary of the Swiss group Transgourmet, 2025 marks the start of a 85 million euro development plan, intended to strengthen leadership in the channels Ho.Re.Ca and retail. “Strategic acquisitions remain a key axis of our growth path,” said CEO Luis Labairu, citing the integration of Dispuig, a leading operator for catering in Girona, and of the group Moya Saus of Mallorca. The two operations have consolidated the group's position as main distributor in the Balearic market.

At a territorial level, Transgourmet is also extending its presence in the Valencian community thanks to the partnership with Nudisco, while on the infrastructure level the construction of a 6.000 m² hybrid platform in Mercabarna, opening in March 2026. The new hub will integrate a cash & carry for local customers and a logistics base dedicated to HoReCa supplies in the southern area of ​​Barcelona.

In parallel, the company completed the restyling of cash & carry centers It's open 23 new franchise outlets, reaching almost 700 supermarkets to teach Suma, Proxim and SparDespite a downward revision of the annual forecasts, linked to a weak summer in the tourism sector, Transgourmet maintains its objective of a 3% organic growth in retail and 2% in the HoReCa sector, without excluding new ones opportunistic acquisitions.

In the discount channel, Sqrups focuses on an anti-waste and circular model to accelerate development: from 110 to 1.000 points of sale in ten years. Founded by Iñaki and Raúl Espinosa, the company registers annual growth rates of 40-50%, supported by efficient internal logistics and an assortment strategy increasingly focused on food and personal care, intended to represent the 95% of the mix.

The format is based on the recovery of surplus products, close to expiry or with minor aesthetic defects, offering a concrete solution to the needs of stock management of producers and the new European regulations on reduction of food waste.

The distinctive element of the Sqrups model is the confidentiality towards suppliersThe absence of advertising protects brands and strengthens the trust of industrial partners, who are increasingly oriented towards responsible distribution solutions.
