A richer recipe, the deli counter as its natural setting and the ambition to create year-round demand for a product originally designed for sharing.
Valle Fiorita is expanding its Pansurprise range with a new Gourmet version, developed specifically for the deli counter and positioned in a more premium segment than the products already available in the line-up.
The new product retains the distinctive features that have made Pansurprise instantly recognisable: a soft bread base, pre-sliced horizontally and ready to be filled with either sweet or savoury ingredients. The main change lies in the recipe, which now includes butter made from Alpine milk, giving the product a richer and more distinctive flavour profile.
Pansurprise Gourmet joins the existing Classic and Multigrain varieties, broadening the range of options available to deli departments. It can be sold whole, filled directly at the counter or used to create recipes for festive occasions, aperitifs and other social gatherings.
The serviced deli counter is where the new product finds its most natural positioning. Its pre-sliced structure simplifies preparation for store staff and makes it possible to create a wide variety of combinations using cured meats, cheeses, mousses, pâtés and sauces, without requiring complex handling. Storage at room temperature and a stated shelf life of 90 days also make stock management more straightforward.
The range extension is part of Valle Fiorita’s strategy to reduce the seasonality traditionally associated with Pansurprise. The Gourmet version strengthens the product’s connection with the deli department and creates additional consumption occasions, taking it beyond its conventional role during celebrations and the year-end festive season.
The next challenge will be to turn this versatility into a clear and accessible proposition for shoppers. Much will depend on retailers’ ability to develop recipes, filling suggestions and merchandising solutions that immediately communicate how the product can be used.
From this perspective, Pansurprise Gourmet could become a valuable tool not only for expanding the assortment, but also for giving the deli counter a more creative and solution-driven role, moving it beyond the straightforward sale of individual product categories.
