Lidl Italy has published its first sustainability magazine, a digital publication of approximately 50 pages presenting the environmental and social results for fiscal year 2025 through data, interviews, and testimonials from employees and supply chain partners. The period covered is from March 1, 2025, to February 28, 2026.
On the energy front, 44,5% of stores are equipped with photovoltaic panels. Electricity generation from company-owned systems increased by 52,5% compared to the previous year, while over 58% of the logistics fleet uses alternative fuels to diesel.
Resource management is another aspect of the magazine: according to data released by the company, 79,2% of waste was reused, recycled, composted, fermented, or transformed into animal feed. Customers purchased 1,3 million Anti-Waste Bags, an initiative that prevented the waste of over 5.100 tons of fruit and vegetables.
Lidl also reports recovering more than 9.200 tons of surplus food. Through nearly 800 local organizations coordinated by the Food Bank Foundation, these products have contributed to the distribution of over 18,5 million meals to people in need.
Throughout the supply chain, more than 1.200 suppliers have adopted the additional GLOBALG.AP BioDiversity protocol. The company also reports achieving certification targets for certain raw materials considered at risk, including cocoa and tea. Vemondo's plant-based alternatives now comprise 174 products.
The magazine also dedicates space to work. Lidl Italia has obtained the UNI/PdR 125:2022 certification on gender equality and has extended paternity leave to 25 fully paid days, taken by 280 employees. As part of a preventive health program, 916 breast exams were also carried out during working hours.
"We want to share the value of this journey with our stakeholders and empower them to participate in a shared commitment," says CEO Martin Brandenburger. The magazine is available in digital format on the company website.
