This article was developed by the team of Food Retail Italy, official representative of the international fairs Cibus y TuttoFood Milan in Latin America.
Francisco de la Roza, CEO of Supermercados Peruanos, offered at the conference organized by the Alimarket magazine during the Privel fair one of the most complete and strategic presentations on the evolution of modern retail in Peru, detailing how SPSA has become the most solid and dominant actor on the market Thanks to a multi-format strategy that integrates supermarkets, hypermarkets, hard discounts, cash & carry and digital solutions, it creates a unique and scalable ecosystem.
The group operates more than 1.600 locations in 18 regions, almost one 56% market share y will arrive in 2024 with 2.300 million dollars in revenue and 300 million in EBITDA, showing a sustained growth of 7% annually over the last five years.
From the Rose I realized that the strength of the model is rooted in it the coexistence of brands with different positions: Plaza Vea y Vivanda in the supermarket segment, with an emphasis on Every Day Low Price and a 26% own brand penetration; Mass as the pillar of the Peruvian hard discount, with 1.467 stores and a surprising participation of 50% own brand, levels that are seen at the most advanced European retailers; y Makro as a cash & carry representative, with 27 stores and a package oriented towards the horeca channel for small traders, supported by its own ARO brand.
El CEO destacó además que Your own brand represents 29% of the company's sales and dominates strategic categories such as freshness, aceites, conservation, cleansing and panadería, boosting loyalty, price competitiveness and efficiency in the management chain.
También remarcó la apuesta digital del grupo, which integrates marketplaces, quick checkout applications and transactional platforms, with the goal of converting to SPSA in the country's most powerful retail ecosystem by 2030.
Para De la Roza, el desempeño del grupo demuestra que The Peruvian consumer is prepared for higher levels of quality, precio justo y omnicanalidad, and that SPSA is in a unique position to continue leading the modernization of the sector and consolidate itself as an strategic partner for international suppliers, including Europeans and Latin Americans, who seek to operate in an expanding market and with a high level of development of their brand.
