The National Retail Federation (NRF) has released its 2025 ranking of the world's top 50 retailers, created in collaboration with Kantar. The ranking is based on revenues achieved in 2024 by companies that operate in at least three different countries. Walmart confirms its first place this year, thanks to investments in a new online platform and an innovative logistics management model.
Following in the top 10 are Amazon, Schwarz Group, Aldi, Costco, Ahold Delhaize, Carrefour, Seven & I, IKEA and The Home Depot, unchanged from 2023. According to Mark Mathews, director of research at NRF, “2024 saw steady growth in the retail sector, with consumer spending strong despite market uncertainty.”
David Marcotte, senior vice president at Kantar, highlighted how 2024 was a year of stabilization: “Global retailers invested in mergers, acquisitions and infrastructure. Online sales slowed, while consumers returned to physical stores. Meanwhile, supply chain costs fell and wages rose in many countries.” The ranking reflects the evolution of the sector and rewards companies that are most capable of innovating and adapting to new global retail scenarios.
