Fairtrade UK has announced an increase in the minimum price for bananas, aiming to boost farmers' incomes and promote sustainable wages throughout the supply chain. The decision, which will take effect in January 2026, provides for increases of between 4,6% and 6%, depending on the country of origin. This measure responds to the growing difficulties faced by producers in major exporting countries, who have long called for price adjustments to ensure the economic viability of production. "Banana farmers in major exporting countries emphasize the need for sustainable farming practices and fair prices to ensure the economic survival of the supply chain," said Silvia Campos, senior banana advisor at Fairtrade International.

The initiative is part of the program's strategy Sustainable Banana Offer, which aims to involve all actors in the value chain in a shared approach to strengthen fairness and transparency. In addition to price adjustments, Fairtrade UK calls on supply chain members to ensure decent working conditions and fair wages, so that growth is evenly distributed.
