Lidl Italy is closing out the year with a double ribbon-cutting ceremony, confirming the sustained momentum of its national development plan. Today, December 11, the company inaugurated two new supermarkets: one in Lucera, Puglia, and one in Tavernerio, in the province of Como. These two symbolic openings for the South and North of the country share a common denominator: local investments, sustainable construction, and new job opportunities. A total of 49 new employees have been hired across the two store teams, contributing to a workforce that now exceeds 23.000.

In Lucera, in the presence of Mayor Giuseppe Pitta, Lidl opened its fifth store in the province of Foggia. With over 1.200 square meters of sales space and an A4 energy certification, the new supermarket was designed with advanced construction criteria: energy from renewable sources, a 140 kWp photovoltaic system, and LED lighting integrated with natural light to reduce energy consumption by up to 50%. The project included urban development works to serve the community, including a parking lot with more than 120 spaces, two electric charging stations, and new roads improving access to the shopping area.

Meanwhile, in Lombardy, Lidl began operations at its new Tavernerio store, inaugurated together with Mayor Mirko Paulon. The 1.400-square-meter retail space represents a virtuous urban redevelopment project with zero land consumption: the company redeveloped the former headquarters of a textile company, demolishing the existing building and replacing it with a modern, energy-efficient store. The supermarket also meets energy class A4 standards, uses 100% renewable energy, and features a 157 kWp photovoltaic system, large windows for natural light, and high-efficiency LED lighting. The project also includes rainwater collection tanks, a 114-space parking lot, and community-friendly initiatives, such as a new sidewalk on the main road and a public parking lot with approximately 30 spaces on Via Aldo Moro.

In both stores, customers will find the full Lidl assortment: fresh products, organic and free-from lines, regional and international specialties, ready-to-eat deli items, and premium items from the Deluxe range, particularly extensive for Christmas. These are complemented by Favorina products, sweets, and Northern European-inspired treats for the holidays, all made with select ingredients and certified Fairtrade or Rainforest Alliance. With these two new openings—Lucera in the South and Tavernerio in the North—Lidl confirms its balanced growth strategy, based on energy efficiency, urban redevelopment, and expanding services for customers and local communities.
