Lidl is strengthening its presence in Spain with a development plan that includes the opening of 40 new stores and the renovation of 10 more by the end of 2026. The initiative is part of the German chain's growth strategy, which aims to consolidate its position in the Iberian market and reduce the gap between it and the main operators in modern distribution.

The announcement was made during a meeting with suppliers in Barcelona, where the group outlined its goals for the coming years. In addition to new openings, the plan includes expansion and modernization of existing stores, with the aim of improving customer service and increasing the network's sales capacity.

Today, Lidl has approximately 700 stores in Spain and employs 19.700 people. Despite its increasingly significant presence, the chain is still far from the industry leaders. Lidl's market share stands at 6,9%, while Mercadona leads the market with 27%. Carrefour comes in second with a 9% share.

During the event, the company highlighted the central role of private labels, considered one of the brand's key success factors. Private labels continue to be a distinctive element of Lidl's offering and an important tool for building customer loyalty.

The company also emphasized the value of collaborating with Spanish suppliers. Over half of the products purchased in the country are exported to other markets where the group operates, confirming Spain's strategic role within the brand's international supply chain.

According to company data, Lidl's operations contribute more than €9,2 billion to Spain's gross domestic product each year. This result confirms the group's growing economic influence and supports its plans for further development within the country.
