Lidl Italy is strengthening its presence in Sicily with the inauguration of a new store in Palermo, at Via Ugo La Malfa 160-166. The supermarket, officially opened this morning, replaces the historic store on the same street that has been operating since 2010 and no longer meets the brand's latest standards. The move is part of the chain's expansion plan in Southern Italy and has also created new jobs: five new employees have been hired to support the existing team at the store. The store will be open daily, Monday through Sunday, from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m.

The new supermarket covers approximately 1.400 square meters of sales space and is the result of an urban regeneration project carried out without the use of new land. The building stands on an area previously used as a bus service station, which has been redeveloped and transformed into a modern retail space along one of the main commercial arteries in the northern part of the city.

From an energy perspective, the facility is classified as Class A4 and its needs are met 100% by renewable sources. The supermarket is equipped with a 175 kW photovoltaic system and a lighting system designed to maximize energy efficiency through a combination of large windows and LED technology. According to the company, these solutions allow for energy savings of approximately 50% compared to traditional systems.

The project also included the redevelopment of the outdoor spaces. The new store has a parking lot with over one hundred spaces and an electric vehicle charging station, services designed to improve the facility's accessibility and sustainability.

Inside the supermarket, customers will find the brand's typical assortment, which includes fresh fruits and vegetables, organic products, and lines dedicated to specific dietary needs, such as gluten-free, lactose-free, and high-protein options. The offering also includes ready-to-eat foods, premium Deluxe products, and a non-food selection ranging from DIY and personal care products to clothing and pet supplies.

Particular attention is paid to regional products. The store will offer approximately 110 Sicilian products, including cured meats from Nebrodi black pigs, traditional cheeses, baked goods, preserves, honey, and local wines. The initiative aims to highlight local excellence and strengthen the connection between the distribution chain and Sicilian gastronomic tradition.

Present in Italy since 1992, Lidl now has a network of approximately 800 supermarkets supplied daily by 12 logistics platforms across the country and employs over 23.000 people. Its shelf assortment includes more than 3.500 items, 80% of which are produced in Italy and under its own brand, with the aim of offering customers competitive value.
