The plant-based beverage market is showing signs of maturity, and Oatly, a historic oat milk pioneer, is responding by rethinking its narrative. After a period of slowdown for the plant-based sector, the Swedish company is shifting its focus from environmental messaging to enhancing taste, culture, and consumer experiences.

With the company Future of Taste ReportOatly identifies five trends set to redefine the beverage universe: the global circulation of Asian flavors, the growth of low-sugar and low-caffeine options, the return of fiber and fermented beverages, the rediscovery of local ingredients, and the evolution of matcha and artisanal tea.

“This report offers a lively view of where beverage trends are going,” explains Rowena Roos, Global Head of Food and Drinks Experience by Oatly. "New generations seek connection, identity, and well-being in every cup." The document thus marks a strategic shift: less emphasis on climate rhetoric and more attention to pleasure, variety, and daily balance. In a slowing market, Oatly seeks to rekindle interest in plant-based products with a more experiential, inclusive, and flavor-focused offering.
