Tesco is expanding its e-commerce offering in the Czech Republic with Tesco Hned, a new express delivery service developed in partnership with Wolt. The goal is to deliver groceries to homes in about 40 minutes, catering for immediate and smaller purchases compared to traditional scheduled online shopping.

The project is starting in Prague, where a test is already underway in six stores. By early September, Tesco plans to extend the service to 22 more stores, bringing the total number of participating stores in the capital to 28.

The assortment includes the main categories of everyday shopping: fresh produce, beverages, personal care items, cosmetics, household products, and pet food. The idea is to meet especially last-minute needs, from missing dinner ingredients to household essentials.

Tesco Home will therefore complement the existing e-commerce service, not replace it. Traditional online shopping remains oriented toward larger, more planned purchases, while the new model focuses on speed and orders related to immediate needs.

“Tesco Hned complements our online shopping offering and provides a solution for situations where customers need their groceries very quickly,” explained Phil Bennett, head of Tesco’s online business for Central Europe.

The retailer also plans to integrate Clubcard into the platform in the future, bringing the benefits and loyalty logic already used in other channels to rapid delivery as well.

The data and feedback collected during the pilot phase will be used to evaluate the extension of the service to other areas of the Czech Republic. For Tesco, the test therefore also represents a laboratory to understand what space quick commerce can occupy within its omnichannel ecosystem.
