The prices of processed tomato products, in proximity to the spring transplants in the main production areas, remain stable. On the other hand, a generally bearish phase is reported in the prices of raw materials intended for packaging. The US Hot Rolled Coil (the main raw material for the production of steel cans), between the beginning of February and the beginning of March, showed a deflation of 21%, -7% for the Northern European ones, both returning to the values of October 2023 (pre-Middle Eastern crisis). The prices of glass bottles for tomato puree also marked, in the month of February, a -3%. The expectations for global production of processing tomatoes 24/25, recently presented by the World Processing Tomato Council, are 47 million t, a rebound of 6% compared to the previous campaign. The increase in production is mainly attributable to a Chinese production recovering by about 40%. In Italy, production is expected at 5,6 million t; +3,7% compared to the last campaign.
