EDEKA has made a new investment in Magdeburg, where the new EDEKA Center has opened in Florapark, one of the German city's main shopping centers. The facility, inaugurated on June 4th, aims to strengthen the local offering with a modern format that combines a broad assortment, regional products, innovative services, and a focus on sustainability.

The new store spans over 7.000 square meters and offers approximately 50 items, ranging from private label products to major national and international brands, as well as gastronomic specialties from various countries.

Great attention is paid to fresh produce. The fruit and vegetable section offers seasonal products and exotic specialties, while the organic section is organized under the "Naturkind" concept. Vegetarian and vegan options are also widely available, a constantly growing segment in German retail.

Among the store's strengths are the traditional service areas dedicated to meat, cured meats, cheeses, fish, and baked goods. The selection of dry-aged beef and pork is particularly noteworthy, as is the "Die Fischwerker" seafood department, which offers fresh fish, smoked specialties produced in-house, and a selection of delicatessen products.

There is also a corner dedicated to fresh sushi and Asian specialties, made daily by our partner “eat happy”.

With the summer season approaching, Falko store manager Michael highlights two distinctive features of the new store: the large refrigerated beverage warehouse and the BBQ area, designed to meet all your grilling needs.

Promoting local produce is one of the project's cornerstones. Over 35 regional suppliers collaborate with the supermarket, including companies such as Röstfein, Altenweddinger Geflügelhof, Halloren, and Bodensteiner. Local products are identified by the "EDEKA Regional" label.

Sustainability also plays a key role. Refrigeration equipment uses CO2 as a natural refrigerant, while heating relies on heat recovery from the refrigeration systems, supplemented by a heat pump. The building is also equipped with digital energy monitoring systems and offers free Wi-Fi to guests.

On the social front, the new EDEKA Center has announced its support for several local organizations. At its opening, funds were donated to local organizations working in the fields of childhood, volunteering, and sports. Surplus food will also be donated to the local food bank.

The shopping experience focuses on maximum convenience thanks to twelve traditional checkout counters, six self-scanning kiosks, and the introduction of the EASY Shopper, the smart shopping cart that allows you to shop and pay directly via an app. The offering is rounded out by 2.700 parking spaces and the new "Flora Bäcker Café," seating 80 and designed as a meeting point for customers and visitors to the shopping center. Approximately 130 employees work at the new supermarket. "With the commitment and passion of each employee, we can continue to successfully develop the market," stated Falko Michael, emphasizing the strategic role of staff in the growth of the new format.
