The French group Intermarché has announced the sale of eight factories belonging to Agromousquetaires, its industrial division. The decision, announced on May 23, concerns plants considered no longer strategic, mainly active in food processing or the fish sector, which employ a total of 1.200 workers out of a total of 11.000.
The affected plants include Antartic II (rice and spices) in Charmes-sur-Rhône, Vertumnus (fruit juices) in Hermes, the Fournil du Val de Loire (sandwich bread), two horticultural sites and three fisheries plants: Capitaine Cook and two Capitaine Houat units. The latter sector has been in crisis for years and the Capitaine Cook site recorded a loss of 3 million euros in 2023.
The move comes as part of a three-year reorganization plan announced in March that has already raised concerns among unions. Agromousquetaires now aims to focus on supply chains deemed strategic, such as fresh meat, vegetables and certain seafood.
Despite these divestments, the group has announced new investments of 750 million euros over five years, with the aim of bringing its turnover to 6 billion euros by 2030, also thanks to the acquisition of around 300 Casino points of sale and the collaboration with Auchan.
